Quick & easy hot dog bun pan

Profile picture for user Lazy Loafer

I had an urge for some hot dog buns yesterday, and don't happen to have a hot dog bun pan (just another thing I don't have room for in my kitchen). So I pleated up some parchment paper and put it in a rectangular glass cake pan. I sprayed it with pan spray so there was no problem removing the buns later. It worked a treat! Oh, and the recipe was King Arthur Flour (Golden Pull-Apart Butter Buns) with fresh stone-ground soft white whole wheat flour subbed in for some of the bread flour.

They look almost identical to the ones baked in a hotdog pan.

Thanks for the tip! I will give it a try sometime soon.

they look awesome. Will have to give them a try. Great idea

Thank you for the tip. My question is: Did you use the whole golden pull apart butter recipe for six rolls. Again thanks for tip, I'm use for my hot dog rolls.

I made the recipe as written and made six buns/rolls, yes. I think they were somewhere between 130 and 150 grams each, but didn't really scale them that precisely.

Next time I bake my soft pull apart dinner rolls, I will shape them as hot dog buns and use the parchment trick that you have so nicely done. Thanks for the idea!!!

Happy baking, Ski

Your skills never cease to amaze me.  Thanks for the inspiration. marybeth

I have too many pans.  I made some hot dog buns using KA "Beautiful Burger Bun" recipe, only shaped into hotdog buns.  I didn't use parchment, I just oiled the outside and stuck them in a pan.  Your idea is great.

I just don't have room for all those special pans....

I've adjusted the Beautiful Burger Bun recipe to be dairy free by using oil instead of butter, and I use half the sugar.  My family loves them, which is the point.  But I will give your recipe a go as well!
