So many details!  Your friend must have been very happy with her presents.  While you didn't get a lot of lift your crumb looks perfect and it must have tasted amazing.

Yes, Ilda was very happy with her presents! When she learned that I'm making bread again, she's very excited about it.  I gave her a lot of my breads when we met for lunch.  She told me "they were a big hit" and her sister couldn't stop eating them.  She told her friends about me.  When I arrived at the party, her friends came up to me and asked: "Are you the bread maker?"  It feels great to have a good "reputation". :-)

I wonder if you had sprinkled a bit of flour over the torn patch of the loaf before baking, if that would have disguised it. No matter though, I am sure it tastes amazing!

Loading time is often very nerve-wrecking for me, especially when an "accident" has happened.   I freaked out when I saw all those holes.  All I could do was praying for the dough not to deflate and nothing else came to mind.  I think you're right that I could have disguised it.  Next time if the same accident happens, I'll know what to do!

Happy indeed, for both of us!  I treasured the opportunity to celebrate her birthday because  70-year-old doesn't come around twice in one's lifetime.

YW is also awesome!  Perfect for any recipe that calls fir commercial yeast in the mix.  That bread even the ugly ones are very nice and Ilda had to be pleased as punch to get one if them.
