I recently bought a Kitchenaid Classic. It seems to be working ok but I have just tried mixing bread dough and the top of the mixer is jumping about and making a knocking noise. I've checked to see if the dough hook is hitting the bowl and it clears ok. Is this normal??
Here is a video
Hi Ron. I've had this happen too. I think that once the dough comes together, it gloms onto the dough hook and just keeps going round and round. If you are using the mixer to knead, try a lower setting. Another alternative is to finish kneading by hand. Large amounts of dough can be the problem too.

Hi Ron, I have had this happen as well, thought it was just my machine, Deb
I had the same experience with my classic and decided to move up to a 6 quart pro model. I've not had any issues at all with 'heavy weight' doughs. With the classic I could do pizza dough pretty well but anything over 1kg in weight was just too much for it to handle.

The motor head locking lever on KA tilting head mixers have a tendency to partially disengage while the machine is in operation. To steady the head, the locking lever may need to be manually held in place to prevent slipping.

Found a video on YouTube. Search "adjust KitchenAid". Put a small coin in the bottom of the mixing bowl and with the beater attachment watch how the coin moves. It should move about 3/4 -1 inch on each pass. Adjust the head screw until you get this. (Video explains this). Now my mixer doest jump about at all.
