I just found that a new mixer is coming - a home spiral mixer. I have no stake in this thing (found it by a general search for home spiral mixers) and don't know if it will be good or not but it looks very interesting. Coming in April for $799 according to the web page -

Thanks for the link.
I hate that web page design but the mixer looks interesting. That much investment in sizzle makes me worry about the steak.
I know what you mean about the page design. Well, at least lots of people seem to like their pizza ovens. That's got to be a good sign, right? I wanted to make a note of it here, otherwise I will probably forget by the time it's released.
They were careful to say it could be used for pastries and whipping eggs too, which would be good since I have read that spiral mixers can't do anything but dough.
Yes, Ooni announced the new spiral mixer a few days ago. There are already a few posts on Insta and reddit with more information. The Ooni page might be a master piece in design, if we adhere to the Kantian "Thing-in-itself", but unfortunately it lacks even basic information like dimensions, speed, etc. At least I'm not able to find it.
Imo currently not enough information available to make a decision. A small spiral mixer for home bakers was on my wish list for a long time. I like the Ooni design, but when it comes to functionality the small Famag Grilletta IM5-S-10V-HH is still my favourite.
I'm pretty sure that we will see many (sponsored?) reviews in the 2 month. I'm curious about real life reports after they start shipping.
The Grilletta is also very robust. Anybody with a bit of talent for tinkering can repair it if it breaks (spare parts available), ... Not sure the same is valid for the "modern" spiral mixers aimed at home bakers like Wilfa ProBaker, (soon) Ooni Halo Pro, ...
The versatility (flexible beater and whisk) doesn't convince me. I rarely need such a big amount of egg white, etc. that a stand mixer can work properly.
It looks cool but specs are kinda vague. might be smart to wait for reviews.
I'm excited about it. It's AUD 1,100 as opposed to the Famag IM-5s which is like AUD 2,400. Also it weighs 15kg vs about 25kg for the Famag and it also isn't as long in terms of footprint on the countertop. 25kg is hernia material - so you really have to set it up and can never put it away. So there is a lot to like about the specifications. Also the minimum speed and maximum speed range is greater than both the Im-5s and Im-5s HH. So it should in theory be suitable for high hydration sourdough and lower hydration enriched doughs and pizza dough. If you register it it comes with a 5 year warranty. So really should you expect it to break any more than a normal kitchen mixer? Not sure... My Kenwood Titanium XL planetary hasn't given up the ghost in the 5 years I've used it and I bake at least once a week with a dough quantity of about 1.8kg to 2.2kg.
