Purple tint to the hooch, is it bad?

Toast

Hello,

I had to refrigerate my starter just when was becoming established as I ran out of flour.  I pulled it out of the fridge after 6 days this morning and it has a puprle tint to the hooch.  Do I have to completely throw out the starter because of the purprle tint?  It smells gently like sour/yeast.  The last feeding was a little of AP flour and mostly spelt flour, as that is all the flour that I had left in the house at the time.  I am a novice, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you

Looks fine to me... Nice looking starter I’d say. Just stir the hooch back in and feed as normal.

You are keeping a LOT of starter there by the way... I keep about a tenth of that !

I’d say you’ll be fine feeding it with AP - although try to put in a bit of wholewheat when you can get some...

The hooch on my starter after being left in the fridge for a few weeks is a similar colour.  I wouldn’t worry about it either.  And I agree with the others, you can greatly reduce the amount of starter you keep in the fridge and save on the flour you’re using to feed it.
