Baker Beware!
I'm making a blog entry to document my experience with Leader's Corn-Rye Rounds from Local Breads. The recipe was simple enough and the little rounds seemed to turn out as described by the recipe, but they tasted just awful. I was so disappointed that I didn't even take a picture of these little round rock-like things with a very odd and inharmonious taste of corn and rye. I threw them all in the trash.

ouch :/ that must have been pretty disappointing to have to toss them all out... better luck next time, or is that recipe being tossed out of the repertoire too?
I've gotten a number of great breads out of that book so I'm not too unhappy. At least that recipe wasn't a ton of work so I didn't lose much in terms of time and ingredients.

Oh Pamela, thanks ever so much for that honest analysis and the giggles that it gave me - not that the waste of your time and ingredients is funny, but simply because it is such a refreshing reminder that we can wind up with some real duds.
I'll be sure to mark the corn-rye rounds as a "no-no" in my copy of Leader.
I noticed that David has made some small corn and rye loaves from Greenstein's book. Apparently he liked them, so I might try that formula at some point. But Leader's were definitely duds in my book.

I've made them several times and they are always good. Just wish they were bigger.
