This is the first time I've tried this popular bread. I used my Australian sourdough. I'd like to try making it again...I had a lot of running around to do today...but at least it got a long ferment but pushed and shoved around a lot getting it into the oven...I should have saved myself a lot of grief and just put in on parchment paper!! I'll know better next time!

This bread is delicious and I will be making it often! I will make 4 loaves instead of 2!

Nice bread and nice picture! I had the same problem with a Pain au Levain this morning; the thing refused to go to the stone, but, alas, my will prevailed and I got it dislodged with the help of my bread knife (Ouch!). --Pamela
Thank you Pamela...you wouldn't believe how many times this bread got transferred, stuck, unstuck, flipped over, flipped back, flipped over again and then hung off the stone...got shoved back up...at least the second loaf was a little easier...I made them to big...I should have made 4 smaller loaves...I started out so neat a clean...last few minutes had flour all over my kitchen counters and stove! I needed four hands...my poor husband tried to help...I scared him out of the kitchen!! I should have had a video for a good laugh!! ; )

Hi, Sylvia.
It sounds like the bread experienced less trauma than the baker!
Your crust and crumb both look wonderful.
David
Thank you David. For being such large loaves they were very light. Im looking forward to useing this recipe for some soup bowles!

Well, for all the jostling, they don't look any worse for the wear. Nice looking loaves!
Debra, thank you...just one of those days when things don't go according to plans! : / All in all I love this bread!
Sylvia
It looks great, for all the manhandling you gave it, Sylvia! ;-)
JH's sourdough is my mainstay bread because it's so schedule-friendly to bake and so darn good.
Hi LindyD, Thank you, That's what I like about it to...it is a very flexable bread!!

I am fond of the saying "All's Well That Ends Well". That seems to be the case with this bake. I also love this bread for all the same reasons.
Your photo is very thoughtfully composed and well done. A thing of beauty!
Eric
Thank you for the nice compliment : ) and also the photo taking instructions! I like that saying too!! Taking pictures at night under my saving energy lights above in the kitchen is not the best time for photos but it is the most convenient... I was happy with the arrangement and all that it showed. I use my little pink 7.2 mega pixels sony cyber-shot 'point and shoot' : ). Also the size comes in very handy for me to tuck into a purse or pocket.

That bread is beutiful! I am jealous of your open crumb. ;) You would be shocked how much abuse bread can take. When I was in my breads and rolls class in school we used to roll the bread around the bakeshop over uneven tile, and bump the rack into the wall, oven, table, students ... you get the idea. The read always came out just fine.
I look forward to seeing more of your bread.
Gothicgirl..Thank you for the nice compliment..and story! The feeling is mutual here...I can't wait to make your tortillas!!
