Ankarsrum roller discolouring?

Toast

Hello all.  I bought an Ankarsrum last month and I'm pretty happy, but I've noticed that the white plastic roller has discoloured to a pinkish colour over the couple of weeks I've had it.  Pretty sure it's not a stain, based on the things I've used it for and the fact that the dough knife isn't discoloured – anyone know what this is?  I emailed Ankarsrum but I'm still waiting on a reply.

Are you sure the discoloration wasn't caused by a particular ingredient? My roller discolored about 8 or 9 years ago, it turned kind of an orangey-pink color. In my case, it was undoubtedly caused by a specific flour (an organic First Clear from NY Bakers). Although it didn't immediately seem like the stain would come out, it did fade out over time. At some point I had to replace a part and a roller came with the replacement set. Except for some light surface wear on the old roller, the two rollers looked exactly the same. By the time the new roller had seen some use, I couldn't tell them apart at all. That was my experience, it might be different for you.

Funny, it never occurred to me until I read your post that the scraper didn't get discolored, but it didn't. I suspect it's made from a slightly different material due to its different function.

I haven't used it with anything strongly coloured or unusual – mostly wheat doughs with a bit of rye.  And I've only made about a dozen loaves, so I'd expect that anything short of food colouring shouldn't discolour the plastic this quickly.  Ankarsrum support asked for pictures, so I'm hoping to hear back from them on Monday.

That‘s very odd for a new roller.  I agree with AG it must be from someone that it came into contact with.  I’ve only had mine since the fall and it is still perfectly white.  If you’re in the US or Canada they are really good about customer care I have to say.

If you don't mind, would you post a picture of the roller? I've had mine for almost a year now, and haven't noticed any discoloring. I will also be curious to see what Ankarsrum says once they've seen your photos.

The kind in the plastic squeez bottle. For some reson it always is stronger than fresh lemons. Works on blue berry and mango stains too. Many dish washing soaps contain bleaching agents that work too when used concentrated on a sponge. Bran, nut skins, banana sap can leave  invisable stain that tend to show up when in contact with soap.  Might be something like that. Smearing heavily with wet baking soda and allowing to dry is another way to pull out stains especially from porous stone or like surfaces.
