These go so well with curries (my fav chicken tikka masala gravy)

Makes about 6 - 8 naans, cooked on a cast iron skillet

  • 3g instant yeast
  • 100g warm water
  • 15g white sugar
  • 40g milk
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 270 g all purpose flour
  • 30g / 2 tbsp ghee or unsalted butter, melted

I've been making naan a lot the last month or so too. The recipe I am using is something like:

  • 1 cup AP flour
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons plain yogurt
  • 1/3 cup warm water

About 90 minutes to rise, then divide in 3, shape, and cook in a cast iron skillet. Melted butter, sea salt, and sesame seeds on top after it is done.

I saw one person say egg in naan in not authentic, another say it is fine. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ My knowledge of South Asian cooking is extremely limited, but we've been really enjoying these.

There are many vegetarian south Asians and I’ve tried both with yogurt and egg :) I like them both! Have you tried making garlic cheese naan?

After the first rise, flatten your rested divided dough ball into a rough circle, brush with garlic butter, sprinkle shredded cheese, seal all the seams and roll into a ball. Let it proof a second time (about 15-25 minutes only) and roll it flat before cooking. They’re amazing!

thanks for sharing your recipe :)
