Does anyone have a old bowl lift Kitchenaid mixer. I need to adjust the beater height slightly upwards. The adjustment screw on newer mixers is on the main post just behind the top of the bowl. But my mixer has two, side by side, screws there and they are not for beater adjustment. After over an hour on the phone with KA, with an assistant who inspired no confidence, she told me the adjustment screw was a tiny, difficult to access screw on the first part of the horizontal part of the machine. My mixer dates from 1997 and is a regular 5 quart bowl lift model. Does anyone have a similar mixer to confirm this or an old manual that shows this adjustment?

Manuals Library is always a good option, plus KitchenAid also has an area for manuals (including an area for older models):

Many thanks. Patsy
Good links, chgo_bread. I was just about to ask about the model number.

Patsy I have a similar Kitchenaid mixer model KSM50P with a similar problem. I found the instructions to adjust the height here:

Lay the mixer on its back you'll find the small screw in the middle. You need a short handled flat screw driver because the lift mechanism gets in the way of a long one. In my case the screw wouldn't move and seems possibly a little stripped. Luckily the adjustment I wanted to make was very minor so for now I'll just ignore it. Wishing you better luck!
Many thanks to all. This solved the problem. I didn't realise how much gunk this part of the mixer accumulated - so two chores solved! Patsy
Here's a video of checking for adjustment using a dime. I suppose this concept could work for just about any planetary type mixer. I have an older 7qt DeLonghi that has the adjustment on the paddle/dough hook.
