Scale without flour in the display

Toast

Hi all,

I am new here, I am professional baker who has been laid off in this time of global strife and now has alot of time for personal baking. I am searching for a replacement for my OXO digital scale which has served me well for many years but now has collected a lot of flour behind the display screen and is becoming more and more difficult to read. I am considering getting a balance beam scale (not committed as I don't have a couple hundred bucks lying around). Mostly what I want is a quick-read, digital scale that has a 1 gram accuracy range, and a screen that won't get filled with flour. Anyone have any thoughts or sugestions?

Get your screwdriver out and clean out the one youve got! Whats to lose?

At the very least, it'll buy you time to make a better choice of a new one.

If I were to spend good money on a proper scale Id look for one with a Batch function, that you can quickly weigh something and call it '1' and then on dumping in a load more itll tell you how many batches youve got.

Just my inner thoughts :)

I have the KD8000. It has a large easy read screen at 8KG capacity. Measures in 1 gram increments. It also has a screen protector :)

Unfortunately the display is protected by a cover which is glued onto the buttons and doesn't come off very easily. This is why I will need a replacement, the cover would have to be removed cleaned and replaced and then the same problem would happen again eventually. I have looked at the KD8000, does the display sit flush with the buttons or is it recessed into the panel? I really want to avoid the design of the OXO where there is a piece of plastic which covers the display and buttons evenly, and is attached by adhesive, I think this is sort of an inherently flawed design destined to be filled with flour.

maybe 1/8”.  The clear plastic shield is hinged along the top edge of the faceplate and can be swung up or down.  I usually have it partially raised so that I can reach the buttons but low enough to keep spills averted.  While not a perfect solution, it’s better than either the Oxo and Salter scales I’ve owned previously.
