any good bakeries in the SF Bay Area...?

... comparable in quality/taste to Josey Baker and Pan-O-Rama to buy bread from, small or big?

Was wondering if there were any other bakeries in San Francisco and the Bay Area that make great tasting bread?  After tasting bread from several bakeries over several years, I ended up buying only from the two above-mentioned bakeries.  Tartine, Acme, Neighbor Bakehouse, Backhaus in SM are great places but their breads are pretty bland and not worth the drive compared to the best (IMHO) two.

What is your experience?  Best, h.

 

I got there on the first day, when they gave the starter away for free, and the four was cheaper. Flour and starter are great. I had not baked for quite a while, but shelter in place, etc. Time on my hands...

La Baguette in the Stanford Shopping Center is not too shabby if you're in the Peninsula. Not a huge variety of breads, but their cranberry walnut and buckwheat pear breads both have decent flavor (unfortunately no rye though). The 9 grain is good for sandwiches and toast too. It's not Josey Baker flavor/breadth, but the best I've found thus far if you can't often trek up and down the peninsula.

 KathyF, Wtharvey, thank you for the info!  Will definitely pay a visit to the bakeries next time I go to Santa Rosa or Palo Alto.

so YMMV, but I really like As Kneaded Bakery for sourdough loaves. I haven't been to the actual bakery which is in East Bay, but buy their bread at the San Mateo College Farmer's Market. My favorite is their Sesamiche.
