I got a Mockmill so that I can more easily produce my own cracked rye and different flours - especially rye. Seems that most folks say the difference in fresh-milled flour is worth it. Thought I'd give it a whirl. Will post some pics later once I use it.
Congratulations. Now the fun begins. In addition to rye and wheat for breads you can make your own corn meal and even Scottish oatmeal if you get some corn and oat groats. By the way, freshly milled rye makes a very vigorous starter if you're inclined to use sourdough.
Love my mockmill but it has some quirks. You do get the freshest milled flour EVER but you have to factor in the time it takes to mill the flour into your production time. Also, if you are looking for very fine flour, the dial needs to be set PAST the finest setting and it will tend to walk itself back towards coarse so keep an eye on it. The last quirk may be a quality issue. My chute needs to be about 2 mm longer as it tends to just,kind of,sort of, almost-not-quite miss the bowl. I have to tilt the bowl on a towel to make sure I catch all the flour. If I try tilting the chute, the flour tends to not drop.
Love the difference in the bread=-esp.rye! Enjoy!

There are a couple of 'fixes' for the walk back that clazar 123 mentions. The company suggests slightly stretching the spring that's behind the detent. I've also found that milling at a speed slightly less than maximum helps. I have an older KA with a bowl lift and I simply mount the bowl without locking it into the lift. That tilts the bowl slightly forward and helps. I believe there's a KA accessory that mounts on the bowl and provides an extended lip which would help with the type of mixer in your photo.

I have an older KA,also (42 yrs old!) but I need to tilt my bowl more than you describe and when I do it tends to roll over with the weight of the flour as it accumulates. A chute might help. I'll have to dig it out of my cabinet and try it.

I'm loving this thing after that first cup cleaning with some grain. I adjusted it from coarse to fine and omg did it do a great job. You can see the different coarse in there.

BreadLee - I'm not trying to hijack your thread but have a question. Is there an advantage to buying a mock mill attachment for a kitchenaide mixer over the countertop standalone units? Did you buy this simply because you had the kitchenaide and this saved you some money over the standalone? Or is there a quality difference either in the unit or flour results that drew you to buying this version? If anyone else has an opinion on this I'd be curious to hear it too. I'm going to buy a mill in the fall when i have a bit more time to bake consistently and have a kitchenaide, so I'd be curious about your choice. Thanks. !
It's really a combination of factors. The price was good. I've seen good feedback about this particular unit. I like the fact that it uses stones. It's German-made.
I don't need more counter contraptions. It's working well so far. I'll be doing low volume home use with it. I likey so far.

I'm loving it! It works great.
When you first start grinding, the first little bit comes out coarser, but I catch it and just run it back through the mill. Not a big deal really.
I'm making smaller batches and haven't run a ton of berries through in one session.

What do you define as "smaller batches"? I usually make 2 loaves over the weekend so about 1000g of flour per week.
