Another N50 resto with Food Chopper ---aka "The Duo"
Finally finished after several months of cleaning, disassembling, rebuilding, greasing, oiling, re-tinning of bowl/covers/etc.,, vintage decals. Well worth the effort.
Thank You Danni! I rescued the food chopper from an old school house on Cape Cod....the N50 came from a retired Hobart employee in the Hartford CT area. Total cost was 49.00! for the chopper/ 300.00 for the N50. Both were in working condition , but rough around the edges.
Looking forward to using the food chopper for sausage / sopressata /"Soupy" (staple in Rhode Island's Italian community) and artisan breads with the N50.
Surely an overkill for the residential kitchen, must be a "guy" thing!!:)
Congrats for this impressive work! As you know I'm also working on a old N50.
Could you tell me more about the painting and finishing job? DId you do the masking and plugging by yourself? Were did you find the vintage decals? Are they just sticked on top of it?
I did most of the sanding and prep work myself. I had the local body shop do the painting. Again....if the "duo" was slated for a commercial project, I would have had everything powder coated. My wife told me she wouldn't mind a flake of paint in her bread once in a while :) I assure you, the paint (Range Rover something caliente red) is encapsulated in two coats of clear and is sealed up really well. I had the decals reproduced by Radio Daze http://www.radiodaze.com/decals-87/ They focus on Vintage decals and do a fantastic job! They are wet transfer , like the original Hobart decals
Hi, thanks for your reply. I'm a bit hesitating to powdercoat mine, it will be depending on the price asked.
I see that you have painted the three uper parts of your N50 assembled? Was it not too complicated to take them appart after that, to rebuild everything?
Could you give me the reference of the clear you used?
Hi Joebart. FANTASTIC Job! It looks so good, I'd be afraid of using it. How did you get the re-tinning done on the chopper bowl? I have a pastry knife on my Hobart N-50, but it is not looking the best. If I could get it re-tinned, it would not look so beat up and dingy.
I hope it works super well for you so that all your hard work pays off.
