Hi guys! im wondering if anyone knows what braid technique is used for the standard challah breads that you often see in the Jewish bakeries (as in pic)? How many strands? And do you have any recommended videos or links of such a particular braid?
Looks like a four-strand braid to me. Hamelman in Bread has two techniques--it looks like it's the high-version four-strand braid. There's a video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RvoqkYaUWo
Ibor is braid master on this site.

As far as I know bread braiding can be anything from 3-6 strands and there are a few techniques.
Yup, Ibor seems to have this down pretty well. Visit his blogspot:

and scroll down for some examples. He also offers a book for sale.
...the process of a 4-strand braid. It's easy even for a fumble-fingers such as I.
