I am planning to buy a Romertopf clay baker and am wondering about the one without a handle - do those of you who have this style of baker find that it is awkward to remove the lid safely partway through the bake? TIA

or dutch oven - so no worries. Proper oven mits are a must though.

I personally find I get a better rise from the Romertopf than the cast iron combo cooker.
