Hello everyone I am a new member.
I made a search on TFL for my answer,and did not come up with any specific information about where to buy a cheap baking stone in or around Toronto,Canada.I do not want to spend no more than 30$ on a stone.I know that there are some members here that live in and around Toronto,unfortunately I cannot contact and ask them directly,so if you are reading this please post name the place where you sourced your baking stone.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Unglazed 6" X 6" quarry tiles purchased at a warehouse store (e.g., Home Depot, in the States.) They work as well as the many pizza stones I broke and are very inexpensive so I bought too many in order to have replacements when I broke one.
Hey richkaimd,the problem with Home Depot in Canada compared to in the USA is that we do not get as much variety.I have asked several HD' here in Toronto and they only sell them glazed with a pattern.
there surely are other stores you can call. Try other stores like Home Depot, but also try Kohl's if you have it, and the countless tile stores around, big and small. Never say never, until you tried them all.
I've seen them at thrift shops and second hand stores, too. Not sure where I got mine. It's old. I used to have two, but one broke so I tossed it.
Can you do a search of "pizza stone source" for your general area, and see what you come up with?
I like the quarry tile idea. I keep meaning to get some, but then never do! Maybe this will spur me along to finally do that.
Here in Mississauga, I'm pretty sure I've seen them in both stores, albeit only a couple of options at each.
Kiln shelves have found a second application as baking stones. Search around for a clay/kiln supplier in the Toronto area for them. The PDF URL attached is a page from Claypeople's catalogue;

And these people are in Oakville, Canada;

Kiln shelf would be ideal but the price of one shelf plus cut is too high.I got a quote from Psh for 74$ not including tax.
Wild-Yeast I appreciate your input but your link to claypeople in California is not very helpful.It just makes me mad how much cheaper my Neighbors to the south can buy materials for much cheaper than in Canada.
Thanks anyways:)
I didn't look into whether they're okay to use in contact with food, but at one point, I did give passing thought to them, mainly because they come in various sizes that can be put together to make different overall surface sizes.
My pizza stone is unglazed but I've seen some that looked glazed. I didn't look around enough to find out if glazed floor and wall tiles are food-safe, but it would certainly be possible to get enough for under $30.
You can pick up a 16.25 inch Terracotta plant saucer for about $15.

Hi Andmyr.. it's true.. prices are lower in the US. But I googled around and found some inexpensive stones in unexpected places.. And even Cdn stores have black friday sales on today and over the weekend..
The Hundson's Bay has a stone for 25 $.. and that's their regular price.. and if you're willing to go up to around 40$ you have to more options..

I went to a place that does granite counter tops and asked for an off-cut the size that would fit into my oven. I can't remember what they charged me but it wasn't much. Use the un-polished side, and make sure it doesn't have any adhesive on it.
this sounds like a good idea,If the place has scrap pieces i could get it for cheap and ask them to cut it to size.
Thanks
