Bread storage bags

what is your favorite method of storing baked bread? Plastic, paper, other? I usually have two to three loaves that we are eating off of at a time. Thanks!

and recently, I have started slicing up the whole loaf once it is completely cooled and freezing it. I put 2 or 3 slices in a thin plastic bag and then put the whole lot in a heavy ziplock freezer bag. I was surprised at how fresh the bread stays compared to leaving it on the counter in a plastic bag. I had to do this for a staff snack and no one believed that I had frozen the bread. They thought it was freshly made. 

So your bread sits in the freezer, all rock like.... and when you want to make a sandwich, what do you do?  Do you let it thaw and then use it? Or do you make the sandwich on rock hard bread in the morning and put it in a Ziplock and let it thaw until lunch time?

 And doesn't it get wet as it defrosts in the bag?

 

and leave it on the counter. Because it is in bags that hold 2or3 slices, I only take out what I need and the bread stays in its plastic bag.  No, it doesn't get all wet as it defrost. The moisture goes back in the bread where it belongs. If you defrost it without its original bag, the moistlure would be lost to the air and your bread would be stale. 

Try it! I didn't believe it either until I had to do it for that staff snack. Now I am sold on it!

PS. If you need bread in a hurry, you can always toast it from its frozen state. 

Someone else recommended doing this a while ago.  I tried it, but only half way. I froze the slices and then just threw them out months later because I kept forgetting about them.

If I store the bread for 1-2 days, cut side down on a cutting board works fine. For 4-5 days I put it in a linen bag and wrap the bag loosely in plastic. This seems to work. Longer storage needs the freezer or refrigerator but then it must be toasted to restore the flavor.
