Central Milling Flour

Toast

I was wondering if anyone has any opinions about Central Milling Artisan Bakers Craft organic unbleached flour?

I order from Azure Standard and just realized they carry this flour.

ABC is as good as any and better than most. The Giusto family runs the operation.

Central Milling is run by Nicky Giusto. Not to be confused with the part of the Giusto family that runs Giusto Flours, who also put out quality flours.

I've been through this argument more than once. Having been to Central Milling more than once and spoken with Nicky more than once, I disagree.

I'm genuinely puzzled by your response. What is there to *argue* about as to who runs Central Milling? Seems like this ownership is based in fact rather than opinion. What part of it do I have wrong?

I order a 50 pound bag from them quarterly.

It depends, if you are on one of their routes then there is no charge or I have heard in some states there is a small charge. I'm in California and there is no shipping charge. If they don't have a route near you then I know they ship via UPS. They are located in Oregon. Call their toll free number and they can let you know. The orders are delivered every four weeks.

Given that I'm in Texas, my guess is it'd be cost prohibitive to buy from them. But I'll check it out!

Do you think the flour is more than 3 times better than King Arthur's Sir Galahad? Cause thats how much it's costing (without shipping!)

thanks for the response :)

I don't know about which is better because I've never used either one. King Arthur's Sir Galahad isn't available where I'm located that I'm aware of.

The Central Milling ABC is about $1/lb with Azure, so you can get KA Sir Galahad for .33/lb?

They seem to be different because the Central Milling is organic unbleached.

some cookies like chocolate chunk and peanut butter, but not shortbread as the protien content is too high.  I never use it for cakes or quick breads, preferring their Beehive or combination of their Beehive and pastry flour for these applications.

I'm a big fan of Central Milling flours.  I keep my pantry stocked with two types of their pastry flousr, Beehive AP flour, Artisan Bakers Craft, and High Mountain Hi-Gluten flour
