Ideas for cherry "cinnamon rolls"?

Toast

Got five pounds of dried cherries on special from Amazon.I'm thinking of trying to use them to make cherry rolls.

I'm considering simmering them in syrup, maybe grinding some or chopping in the food processorin order to form a paste for cinnamon-style rolls.Maybe a touch of vanilla or almond extract.Any ideas or suggestions?

Maybe a few slivered almonds on top too.

Any type of rolled danish pastry recipe should work.  Just use the dried cherries in place of prunes, etc.

Thanks!I plan to use my regular sweet roll recipe.I may have to experiment to get the filling right though.Should be fun!

I plump them in hot water and use them in sweet breads, quick breads, anything that calls for raisins has dried cherries instead.

The idea of making a mash of the cherries is very appealing. If you have any almond paste perhaps you could run a 1/4 inch tube of it at the end of the roll put cherry filling on the rest of the dough. (So the almond paste would be in the center of the roll.)

My favorite flavor pairing is chocolate and cherries. What if did your cherry mash spread across the entire dough, dice some dark chocolate, and put that on top of the cherry smear before you roll it up? You could use the small chocolate shards on top if you ice it.

Whatever you do I think something delicious is about to happen in your kitchen.

i love them in oatmeal; also in cookies. my husband sprinkles them on his dry cereal.

no matter how you use them they are fantastic.

enjoy, claudia
