What to do in Little Rock

Toast

I am going to be in Little Rock next week and was wanting to ask the locals if there was anything I should do while there. Great restaurants, bakery supply, gourmet grocery, ect...

Whole Hog Cafe | 2516 Cantrell Road | Little RockArkansas | 501-664-6596  is a must stop...

great BBQ, great potato salad.

Ask at the hotel where you can get spudnuts.... doughnut sort of thing made from potato flour.... I know they are from El Dorado not far from LR... there have to be some in LR

and for cajun food go to the Faded Rose.  It is tricky to find but you can get directions from a local.

Don't miss Whole Hog... I don't go to LR but that we make at least one stop there if not several per visit.

I would so like to have spudnuts with my morning coffee now that you have me thinking about them....

Otherwise, you will find old time home cookin' where everything is fried, over done, covered in gravy and washed down with iced tea

An ol' Arkanese Girl

...he'll show you around the Whole Hog cafe and treat you right.

For walking and biking, the Big Dam Bridge is amazing.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Dam_Bridge

If you like bread (and I think you just might), there's this in Leslie (north on hwy 65).  http://www.serenityfarmbread.us/oven.htm

The world record brown trout was caught in my old home town, Heber Springs ('little over an hour north) on the little Red River.  The Ozark Angler folks in LR and Heber can fix you up.  I rented waders for a friend for $5 once.  Course, they leaked a little, but hey, for $5...).

Thank you all for the delicious directions. Did I mention that I actually live in Arkansas? I have lived in Arkansas for the last 17 years, but I think in all that time I have been to little rock twice. I had been living in the Harrison, AR/ Branson, MO area but a few months ago I moved to Russellville to be closer to my grand babies.

I LOVE good BBQ, That said, I haven't had Good BBQ since I moved to Arkansas. (except when I cook, and I prefer KC style) I know its out there but I haven't found it. I will be heading to Whole Hog when I am in Little Rock. And I will give "The Smoke Shop" a try. Its about 45 miles from me.

I have driven through Leslie about 100 times and had no idea about Serenity Farms. WOW. I think I am going to plan out a trip up there to check that out.

For any one else in the Arkansas area be sure to check out War Eagle Mill. http://www.wareaglemill.com/ I get up there about once a month.

Yes. I have some in my pantry now. Along with some rye. I love that it is still sold in cloth sacks.
