Full of holes

I heard a hilarious comment today!

One of my friends was picking up three loaves as well as some sourdough starter. He mentioned it was for a friend who had been given some starter and a loaf from someone else. For some reason, the starter didn’t work for her and she wasn’t very happy with the loaf she got because it was “full of holes”! ?

I had to explain that a lot of us would kill to have loaves “full of holes”. He said he preferred my crumb. Goes to show you that what we think is the ultimate goal is not necessarily the preferred one in day to day life.

Lol funny!  I love my bread full of holes.  It's lower calories too?

My friend likes a tighter crumb because he doesn't like spread falling out of his sandwiches .

That is really funny.  I've been making bread for a neighbour who can't eat commercial bread -no comments on holes though. She has been going on about how her grandma used to bake every 2 weeks "on the farm" and made one giant loaf that lasted for the duration.  Now I wonder if they just ate less, or if it was one honkin big loaf! (maybe both)

Yes it is quite funny, what might be seen as a positive amongst some bakers would be seen as a negative attribute by many bread eaters.

That's what I tell people and they laugh but the flavor does come from the shiny skin of the holes. At least that's what I tell myself. Most people unfortunately will gladly accept supermarket bread as the standard to be emulated.

And so is taste. Yes those big holes mean less calories, lol!
