TO KNEAD OR NOT TO KNEAD.....THAT IS THE QUESTION!
I WAS TAUGHT TO MAKE HOMEMADE BREAD IN THE SIXTIES BY A NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOUR, AND IT BECAME MY PASSION. I MADE IT IN A BOWL WITH A SPATULA ..ADDED FLOUR AT THE BOTTOM OF THE BOWL AND WITH A 'UP AND AROUND MOTION' MADE A MOIST BALL, RUBBED IT IN BUTTER AND LET IT RISE AND PANNED IT. FORMING LOAVES TOOK A BIT OF TIME TO LEARN. NOW, WE CALL IT ARTISAN. MY CHILDREN LOVE BREAD THAT CLOSELY RESEMBLES COMMERCIAL BREAD BUT IRONICALY THEY DON'T LIKE COMMERCIAL BREAD ANYMORE. I GUESS WHAT I AM SAYING IS, NOTHING HAS REALLY CHANGED IN TIME, IT'S STILL FLOUR, WATER, AND ADDITIVES, AND THERE IS NO END TO WHAT YOU CAN DO WITH IT. IT IS LIKE THE NEVER ENDING STORY....ISN'T IT GREAT!
