BUP - Should I still use the dough hook extender on bigger batches?

I realize this is probably a stupid question, but I'm mixing up four loaves right now and I couldn't decide whether I should use the extender or not. So I just ended up using it, but I'm not sure that was the right call. Can the dough hook extender at any time be a detriment to the mixing/kneading process?

Then yes use it. I believe it’s main function is to prevent the dough from climbing up into the sprocket as well as working better with smaller amounts of dough. I wouldn’t use it if there are hard seeds in the mix because they scratch the center column like what happened to mine.

Drum roll mistro...

Ha, just messing with you.

I like the stainless steel dough hook with the integrated dough extender. It is dish washer safe and works great. Sorry I do not have a part number for you. That being said, let me snap a photo of it for you. Standby.

The truth be told I don't use the plastic bowl for dough anymore. I do use it to it other accessories. For dough I use the old style stainless steel bowl with the dough hook drive at the bottom. This bowl is great for dough. The drawback is it is dedicated for only the dough hook. Not a big deal for the paddle or whisk attachment I use the plastic bowl. I hope that helps.

Kind regards,

My dough hook extender was scratching the white center column of the Bosch when I made 4 loaves of dough at a time. Since that scratched off plastic has to go somewhere, I assume it is in my dough. Yuk!

I decided not to use the dough hook extender with my last 4-loaf batch and it worked perfectly, so I don't plan on using it again. I think it is for "small batches" and it looks like 4 loaves of dough isn't a small batch.

The one piece dough hook with extender doesn't fit my Bosch because I have the new style stainless steel bowl with the white center column. Since the dough hook alone works with 4 loaves, I am happy. You might give it a try and see if it works for you.
