I am new to this site and breadmaking in general and I am having a bit of trouble figuring out how to message people. I have not yet found a way to click on peoples names to see their account or to message them directly if I have a question outside a forum post. Am I doing something wrong?

I think it also works if someone sends you a message first. I've just sent one. Check your account.
