I like that sheen effect.  I only get it when there's enough moisture early in the bake. I don't think it affects the taste or mouth feel but I like the appearance.

And look at the blisters! It's a thing of beauty, all right.

Artisan bread is delicious, but you've gotta have soft sandwich bread for egg salad. It's a law.
