Hello, dear friends!
I live in Canada. I baked my first loaf just a few months ago. I have four children and bake something so often. But I'm really fresh in bread baking)))
I've understood that my family loves my homemade bread. Now I am trying to find everything for easy and comfortable baking. Specially, I'm trying to find a baking stone. As I've read before, that it has to be 2,5-3 cm or more thick. I can't find it. I found one made from granite but its to small size, just 15 X 15 cm. May be you have some advise for me where I could get it???
Thank you in advance.
Welcome to the site!
Are you sure it is 15x15 cm and not 15x15 inches? 15 cm is teeny, barely large enough for a roll!
I think the one I have is the "Old Stone Oven 14-Inch by 16-Inch Baking Stone" that is available on Amazon or Amazon.ca. I'm sure you could find something similar elsewhere too. I bought it over 10 years ago and have been very happy with it.
It is over a cm thick. Maybe not 2-3, but it is enough to get a noticeable spring without taking too too long to heat up.
Thank you very much for your response. I was afraid that all I find is too thin (0.6") and your experience is important to me.
Dear Shylka,
I purchased my stone at Breadtopia online
https://breadtopia.com/?s=Baking+Stones&post_types=post%2Cproduct&posts_per_page=20
Select Size: 13 7/8" x 17 1/2" ($69)
It's .875 " thick and I bake 4 1.4 lbs. loaves at a time. I've had this stone for 3 years now.
Alternatively you might get a steel baking sheet from a Restaurant Supply house in Canada. I'd go for a .375" thick or thicker. They both work the same and all my sources agree on that.
Happy Baking.
