Non-Dairy or Soy

Toast

Hi everyone,

My grandson is allergic to dairy and soy. Does anyone know if you can substitute almond milk for dry milk called in some bread recipes? Also, has anyone found dry almond milk by chance?

Thanks!

Any non-dairy milk can be substituted for cow's  milk.  That would include goat or sheep milk in case your grandson's allergy is limited to cow's milk.  You might have to augment with a bit of oil if the chosen milk has a very low fat level.  Flavors may be different, too.

With a little experimentation, you'll find what suits your preferences best.

find out if he can handle coconut milk. It's a great substitute.  Or try just leaving out the milk and hold back on a few tablespoons of the water if needed.

I was on Amazon last night looking for something else, and they have 1 or 2 brands of powdered almond milk, also powdered rice and coconut milk.  I've only used alt milks in half gallons from the store, so can't help on brand or quality of dried.  Also, if you're feeling adventurous Google "powdered almond milk" and you'll find recipes for making it from scratch, to be reconstituted later.
