i had this bread recently in China. It’s a sweetish bum with a lovely sugary topping with black sesame seeds. When I asked the chef, he said it was Mexican (?!) but never seen anything like this.
To me it looks like a steamed bun. I was playing around with a whole wheat steamed bun recipe yesterday and your photo is not too dissimilar to what I ended up with.
