This is my first post on this site. I have learned much about disassembling the mixer I recently purchased from reading this forum. I am the new owner of a Hobart KitchenAid K45SS that I believe was manufactured around 1978. I purchased the mixer for my 14 year old daughter who is learning how to cook and asked for a mixer. I plan on re-painting the mixer but want to make sure it is in good working order before I address the cosmetics appearance.
I have dug into the work of removing/replacing the old grease. At this point I have removed the majority of the grease and found what I believe to be metal shavings in the old grease as evidenced by the accumulation of black, powdery matter inside the head unit. None of the gears are missing teeth and the unit ran through all speeds before I opened it up.
Is there anything I should look for, be concerned about regarding my findings of what I think are metal shavings. Other than cleaning out the old grease and packing in new grease what else is recommended?
I was only able to attach one photo. Other photos can be seen at this photo sharing site.
