Life Expectancy of deck ovens

Toast

I am looking to buy an electric deck oven to start up a home bakery.  I have found a used electric deck oven with steam that is 10 years old (ABS 3 pan, 2 deck).  The owner says it is in good working condition but as it is in another state I cannot look at it or test it.  The owner is selling it because his bakery has grown and he has upgraded to a much larger oven.  I know next to nothing about deck ovens and am worried that a 10 yr old deck oven is too old.  He is asking around 4k for it.  Can anyone advise on this?

I have a 22-year old Rotoflex which is a revolving deck oven.  Works like a charm and doesn't figure to ever break, other than buying a new motor at some point.  Your oven won't have a motor.  Age is no problem as long as the decks are in good condition, very few moving parts.

These are well built commerial units and should last a very long time.  Bigger question is do you have 3 phase power or can the unit be converted to single phase.  Make sure you have checked this out.  Talk with ABS. 319 373 5006

Hello Sharp Tooth

After ten years of commercial usage, the oven could well have seen better days. How good are the photos in the add?

The door hinges could be sloppy and heavily worn, the heating elements could  start to fail one by one (you could inquire about the cost of that) . Steam units are most often the troublesome things, using water filters and descaling are important, I would inquire about the service history and the owners general attitude to maintenence.

I'm not familiar with this brand of oven, you'll have to weigh the 4k asking price against the new cost and do try and have a good look at it.

cheers
