Soda Bread (Not Irish)

Profile picture for user le boulonger86

This is a loaf I made with Add Garlic, Cheese, Parsley & Chillies

Hi, Mr. le boulanger86! Comment allez-vous? :-)

Sorry for my ignorance, but ... what is a non-Irish soda bread?

How would it differ from an Irish soda bread?

Thanks.

Hi brunski Tres bien merci,

Non Irish because I do not use buttermilk it's hard to find here in France, I use yogurt and milk. I don't think the Irish would use flavourings either especially chillies

Hi isand66

My Soda Bread...........

125g wholemeal flour

125g plain white flour

1/2 tsp Baking Soda

1/2 tsp Salt

1-2 tbsp plain yogurt

Milk

In a bowl mix the dry ingredients then add yogurt and say 1/2 a cup of milk I tend to start mixing with a table knife once it's all coming together I oil my hand and mix the dough adding more milk as needed you are looking for a dry'ish dough (do NOT over mix the bread will go hard) form into a ball place on a baking tray flatten slightly and cut a cross 3/4 the way through the dough (this is to let the devil out) place in a pre-heated oven at 220°C / 425°F cook for 35 Minutes, slide loaf off tray onto rack and cook for 5 minutes more, place on cooling rack till just warm cut off a slice put on lashings of Butter and enjoy, NOTE Please do not use yellow axle grease from a tub..... Butter only :)

OK now you know how the loaf is made you can add your extra's I like, Fresh black Pepper, Garlic, Herbs, Chillies & Cheese but you can add whatever you like ............

Enjoy & happy baking
