Hello from Bahrain

Toast

Hello everyone,

Once i came upon this site i felt a huge weight life off of me. Baking bread has become my obsession over the years. I come from Bahrain and good bread is hard to come by, its a shame because it tastes so good and is back to basics simple. All the amazing ideas shared as i was browsing, its great to know how passionate all of you are. Pictures are great, i would love to be able to make a similar loaf one day. For now i am here to learn and expand my mind. Thank you all for so much input. Fantastic site!

I am very happy to be on this site now. Our breads from Bahrian are very nice when wrapped up with some meat in the middle and eaten as a sandwhich . Though i am also very curious to learn the artisan trade which in my opinion is the best of all simply due to that crust which is so pleasing to chew hot out of the oven. Khalid, do you work as a baker in Dubai? Would you know of any good bakeries there that make good bread? I am looking to expand my knowledege and learn more than your basic loaf. Great to hear from you all!

Hi, Ghazi

No, iam not a baker, but an amature homebaker.

In Dubai, as in Bahrain and all GCC countries, artisanal Bread is a rarity. You'd expect only luxury hotels or fancy cafes such as Pain Quotidien to offer true artisanal breads. Thanks to almighty God, Great TFL community, and bread books, iam now able to bake Great artisanal Loaves that are comparable to any Artisanal Bakery in Europe or North America.

You too could Bake great breads.. Just keep baking, and ask any question, We shall help you out!

Hi Khalid,

Thanks for the advice. That was sort of what i thought with the GCC. Well, im glad you got to that point and hopefully with more persistence i can too.

Hi my Saudi friend!

Thats great to hear you love baking bread, its pretty rare in this part of the world to find people who are very interested in the art of baking.

Yes, our bread KHUBUZ has an Irani origin, very tasty indeed. They shape it into very thin circles then use a sort of cushion to spread it over and slap it onto the clay oven. You can get a good handfull for very cheap. I have found this place to be great in learning the art. Already i am seeing results, made some white spelt bread yesterday and was lovely, if you give it an extra 5 min kneading it does not have to be dense and heavy. Delicious. Love to be able to bake with an ancient grain, same as the one the Romans used. Happy to hear more people in this region are interested. Hope it will pick up and people will start to realize how bread is simply the healthiest option out there.
