sour corn rye take two
this is my second time round doing the sour corn rye.....this time i used 125 gms first clear flour and i think things went well.....won't be able to tell until we take a cut....but that won't be until tomorrow. this is a big hot bread.....
i'm pretty wiped from all the baking this weekend...but it's been alot of fun! the only 'sad' part is just how fast the family can put it away.....but i guess that's a good thing....
Yikes! my family cut into it when i wasn't there to guard it.....my daughter said 'oh, i thought you said it was ok.....' grrrrh..
oh well now that it's cut....here's a picture......my camera doesn't get good resolution.....i'm working on hubby to get me a new one.....but that may be a while.....
The taste is very good. Crust was crunchy and yummy. Crumb is chewy and delicious. i think the first clear flour helped....i'm so annoyed that they cut into it...i guess i need to have everyone in the family sign a written contract that thou shall NOT slice into a hot bread.....
I just finished baking now , it is now 3 o clock in the morning here in egypt,i cut the bread to show it in my pics , i could not wait , go on and cut yours, hahahaha!!!
Thanks a lot for sharing , it looks sooo yummy , do not forget to share with us the crumb pic.

My family and I just scanned through all of your beautiful bake goods ad we decided we want the Peach Tarte , topped with butter scotch sauce. Really you are such a artist everything has that extra touch of a fine craftsman/woman. Your family is fortunate to have such a skilled and creative person in the home. You are an inspiration to us all.

Chahira,
As much as I would love your torte I would insist on you and your family being our guest should you come to Wisconsin. Yes I can dream of such a lucious treat but it seems so far away---
Eric
Chahira,
Your blogspot photos of your baked goods are truly amazing, such variety. You make beautiful baked items. Everything looks delicious. I love the watermelon ice cream cake. Looks like you used chocolate chips for watermelon seeds???
Thanks for sharing.
Howard
Dear Mr. Howard,
I just started to take my dishes pics , only three months ago, and this blog in very recent , i do not even have the time to write in it ,so it is a little bit primitive.
I hope to find more time to write recipes , diaries and other things , but NO TIME
I prefer baking than writing and just sitting in front of my pc.
YOu know , i did not want to put this pic" the one of the watermelon" i was not sure of it , it was too hot in the summer, and taking a picture for ice cream was totally a miracle" i do not have air condition".I am happy that you like it.
I used artificial ice cream with food colors to imitate the watermelon but i regret it ,we did not want to eat it because we just eat natural and home made ice cream.
I used chocolate chips for the seeds , you are clever!!!
Next summer , i will repeat it but i will try to use 100% natural ingredients.
May be i will invite you to share it with us , you know these days , the season of MANGO, you can not imagine how is the egyptian mango are sooo delicious, I use to make a big quantity of mango ice cream to keep it to the next summer , amazing!!!
I talked a lot , I am sooo sorry.
Thank you soooo much , your nice compliments always give me a push.

there was something wrong with your computer...I think it may have to do with the server or site here. I had the same problem. It isn't responding either until now. I have no problems with other sites.
yes there is a problem, only with this site!!

Good looking bread!
May I make a camera suggestion? (The photo is not in focus. The automatic focus plane seems to be just behind where your subject stands.)
1st make sure the lens is clean. Then, try taking a picture of any object depressing the snap button half way down for just a few seconds so the camera can focus first, then press the button down and take the picture. If the camera doesn't have an automatic adjustment when you hold the button 1/2 way down, then move back just a little. The picture can be cropped and blown up after it is downloaded. Take enough pictures close and far so you can choose among them, erase later.
I have great difficulty seeing if the picture on my tiny monitor is in focus. That is why I make the suggestion. Remember to give time for the camera to focus, then click. Hope that helps :)

Very nice.
Howard
for your feedback. mini o i will try your suggestions. i've never used a digital camera before (i'm from the manual generation.) that being said, the camera is a cheapy and there is a limit to the resolution of one of these type of cameras due to the poor quality of the lens. but i'll give your suggestions a try. i didn't know there was something to 'tell you' the picture was in focus....i just lined it up best i could and snapped the shutter!

Deborah,
Your photos look fine to me. Don't know what type digital camera you're using but mine has a function that, when you lightly depress the shutter button (half way), gives off a beep-beep to indicate the subject is within acceptable range for taking the photo. If I get no beep-beep (as with photographing a loaf of bread at too close a range) I know the camera is too close to the subject and the photo will lose some of its resolution/clarity. You may want to check your user manual, there may be a setting for close-up photos.
Howard
That loaf looks great to me. You got a nice rise and the crust looks perfect. What recipe did you use for this?
BTW the cheaper fixed focus cameras will take good pictures but they have a distance limit for sharp focus. Actually all cameras are limited in range to some degree. Usually it's between 6 and 10 feet. As Mini pointed out your background details are sharp and clear so you must have been just a foot to close. The crumb pictures are always the hardest to get right. You can crop the surrounding details later but the bread has to be in focus first. You'll get it, just takes a little practice.
Great job!
Eric
laurel's bread book. it is her sour corn rye. it is not a sourdough recipe, but it has yogart and cider vinegar in it. i posted the recipe here.
