i thought i'd share an article about an Australian bakery (working museum ) in the Australian outback. you can volunteer your services for the  month that the volunteer work groups gather.

Fascinating, both the bakery and the baker in this bit of history!  If I were close enough I'd be tempted myself, although I do very poorly in heat.  The article mentions uncertainty as to "if the bakery would have been used during the most extreme weather, the conditions at best would have been extremely tough", but doesn't say what those conditions are, or otherwise define "extreme weather".

Yes keeping well enough to keep a hand in but I don't bake near as much as years past.  I still read here almost every day but comment much less than I used to.   Couldn't pass this post up though. It was to interesting to just read it and not acknowledge. Thanks again.

Thanks for that kind thought i must say i have developed a bit of a thing about commenting on posts when the people haven't bothered to fill out their  INFO  panel in My Account . Dosen't need to be their life story but i feel its a courtesy if you are wanting to engage  and seek some advice to at least make that effort.

The other day the whole section was like that, no details, its usually helpful to know at least where they are in the world   . I also reckon it would be a detterent to the spammers that post their rubbish if they had to do more than just sign up and create a name and start posting crap, I know  Floyd removes it fairly quickly and i often alert him to those posts when i see them.

AS  a long time member i'm sure you will know that years ago we all seemed to take pride in identifying our whereabouts and just a little about ourselves.  It has helped me meet a few of our TFL bakers  on my travels or if they have been visiting Western Australia  Ananda,  Mebake , Zita and Betsy  as well as local baker Rossenroller

I could not agree more, on all points.

I am still interested as to what the "extreme weather conditions" are/were that the article refers to.  Am I correct to assume they refer to extreme heat?  I guess that is why the bakery, especially the oven, was partly underground?  It would be somewhat cooler for the bakers, partly buried.

As I said:  very interesting

Extreme weather will be the heat

Interestingly the name Farina is of course associated with wheat and at one time it was considered to be a good area to grow wheat but  that appears to be only when there was good weather years and that idea was abandoned when  succesive ordinary and bad years  happed. The absolute nail in the coffin was when the railway was realigned  and bypassed Farina altogether,

It does look like it might be a good bakers holiday though!. its great to see the enthusiasm and that the bakery has been at the centre of restoration for the town,.
