caramel color powder
yes, I know its nearly sinful.
However .... has anyone a source for a small amount of caramel color powder?
4z or so, but I'll do a pound if there is no other way.
I'd like powder rather than DIY which would be liquid.
I use boiled chocolate malt, which gets me at least part of the way to where I'd like to be.
Nor do I know what you have in mind but don't some recipes use instant coffee for colour? I've also heard of broth/gravy browning being used in recipes like Danish Rye Breads.
yes, but that's not what I'm looking for. It's for ww multigrain and pumpernickel.
try this. scroll a little.

Gel looks cheaper, but two shades of brown powder are available.
"Blackstrap" molasses, as opposed to regular molasses, imparts some color as well as taste. Blackstrap is more concentrated, so the ratio of color to sugar is higher than regular.
Here's a source for caramel color powder:

that meets your size requirement (or you can go for 50 pounds!). King Arthur used to carry a similar product (which I bought a couple of times), but isn't listed anymore on their site.
thanks, that looks a winner
I got mine online from myspicer.com in Colorado: https://www.myspicer.com/shop/caramel-color-powder/
They used sell it in 1/4 lb bags, but it looks like the minimum is now 1 lb. The price is still good.
thanks.
Was re-reading over this 2010 posting over various yeast waters

No prune taste and doesn't take much to color a dough. Use instead of water.
And turkey Marabella! Oh yeah!
I love chicken Marbella!
Scent of a woman, turkey Marabella, A twist on The Silver Palate Cookbook” by Sheila Lukins and Julee Rosso's chicken Marabella!
go bake something caramel colored! :)
interesting thread. thanks.
