Heh JMonkey possible starter storage option for ya

Sorry to try to grab your attention like this, but...

Did you ever find the little 4 ounce, glass starter storage jars you were looking for?

If anyone is interested.  I came across Kerr making a 4oz.   They had these at our local Walmart for about $9.00us per case of 12

Kerr® Regular Mouth (4 oz) Quilted Crystal Glass Jelly Preserving Jars

Kerr® Regular Mouth (4 oz) Quilted Crystal Jelly Jars are ideal for fresh preserving recipes such as jams, jellies, sauces, mustards and flavored vinegars. The Quilted Crystal design adds a decorative touch to these multi-purpose jars—also use them for serving, creative décor, and gift-giving.

Just in case anyone was lookin.

They're the most versatile little things, aren't they?  I'll have to check the WM for them.  I use a quart jar for my starter, but I use 4 oz jars for storing spices, kosher salt and whatnot.

Yeah! That's exactly what I'm looking for. I'll check my local all-purpose store (the local Wal-Mart is about 40-50 minutes from here) and see what I can pick up. Thanks!

JMonkey,

I used to get them at the Stop & Shop down on Memorial Drive, but that's a computer store now. I think Winter's Hardware, over in Cushing Square, in Belmont also used to have them (or maybe it was Ben Franklins, across the street...)

Useful little things to have around though.

During the Summer they used to be in every grocery store, some of the big major chains don't bother any more.

I like the pint sized ones the best though, there's more growing room.  Yet small miracle whip jars scrap easily since the sides are smooth.

The footprints about the same as the four ounce, and half pint jars.

A few tips though;

buy the wide mouth versions,

just rest the lid on top, don't tighten it down with the collar,

I place a rubber band around the jar at the level of my newly refreshed starters to measure how much it has risen

I alternate between 2 jars that way one is clean and ready when I refresh.
