Little help w/ N50 ..Thanks in advance

Just getting up to speed with a recent edition N50 and attachments and would love to have informed opinions from you folks here ..

looking to upgrade to stainless on the Paddle and Spiral Dough hooks for bread baking which will be main use.

After reading here ..I did pull the trigger on the pastry cutter from Superdoughhook with good results and would love some feedback about their other products  if anyone has experience with the the JP10 ? and JP10A? dough hooks..

Im aware that some older KA beaters, dough hooks , bowls etc may be viable w/ N50 but still dont have clear direction on what to get at this point..

I'm also looking for rec's on current or vintage accessory attachments ..

Pasta rollers and etc.. ( newer Chinese ? or older Italian? seems there are problems w/ plastic parts on both)

Grain mill? ( Im Considering  Mockmill )

Meat grinder ? tbd

or Any and all rec's for other attachments that are compatible w/ Hobart or Hobart/KA ..etc..

Again many thanks in advance !!

so much sketchy and ill informed opinion out there .. makes your head spin.. pun intended..

OK, I'll jump in first.

Below is a copy (with some additions) of info I have posted in a different thread.

FLAT BEATER: Yes a stainless one is always useful, However in my opinion the best beater for these is the vintage Model G flat beater. You need to be careful as there are a number online that claim they are vintage Model G - but are not.  Sure these don't look like much, but wow they fit so perfectly in the bowl and are so fast at what they do.

MINCER - The all stainless 3rd party ones are built like tanks and you can dishwasher them. (I use the "Chefschoice")

PASTA - The stainless Kitchenaid version is the only modern Kitchenaid attachment I own/use. Get the 3 pice stainless set

GRAIN MILL - I use the Mockmill Kitchenaid attachment and love it.  However, I have a much more powerful machine that the N50 so my love for it may not be exactly the same as on your machine.

COPPER BOWL - OMG love what this can  do.

ICE CREAM - The vintage kitchenaid 2qt (rock salt & Ice method) that has the fibreglass tub are awesome.  For mine, it can turn the mixture into ice-cream in 4min flat.

GRATER/VEGETABLE SLICER. If you can swing it get the vintage pelican head set.  Big - but so easy to clean. (P.S. If you want to do ice-cream you need the ice crushing disk too.)

JUICER - the vintage kitchenaid ones are the best. The earlier Mode-G version is a absolute juicing demon. However, for most, the vintage glass version is probably the easiest to deal with. Just use a stainless sieve over your bowl instead of the tiny tin one. I usually do 5 to 10 litres at a time and it is easier than most other methods.  Huge advantage is the juicing action doesn't bring any of the bitterness from the skin. It also leaves the skin in perfect condition making it easy to process that after the juicing.

CONFECTIONERY COATING PAN - FYI, there are a couple of confectionary coating attachments on the market.

MODERN KITCHENAID ATTACHMENT RANGE - Someone else will need to add info as few of these work with my cooking or I do with other machines.

VINTAGE ATTACHMENTS:

CAN OPENER - I love mine, but it is middle vintage age in the time line.  However, from experience, a number of the later model ones that look new in box....were left in their box because they probably never worked well in the first place - and they just went to the back of the cupboard. Sadly, the really old ones are also a gamble as they are just worn out.

COLANDER - Occasionally useful, but there are not enough sieve sizes to be truely useful.

PEA SHELLER - not worth it.  Sadly, the rubbers on most have gone hard in the years so they don't shell any more...they just make a mess.

GNOCCHI - there is someone who coverts old Cavitelli/Gnocchi machines for Kitchenaid.  I like it for Cavitelli, but does require your GNOCCHI mix to be with in tight margin.  WARNING...just a heads up - turning a hand cranked machine where it didn't matter if you get a finger caught into a powerful machine is super dangerous....so you need to decide for yourself.

Thank you therearenotenoughnooodlesintheworld ,

That is a very generous amount of info to digest...

I'm still interested in gathering opinions about components both newer and older (Hobart/KA vintage Model G)  that work well w/ N50..and also new manufactured components for N50 ..

Especially Spiral Dough Hooks ... Bowls

and opinions relating to the newer "china" vs and older "Italy"  Hob/KA format Pasta Roller attachments..

Thanks again ..!!!

I recently bought the JP10A spiral dough hook for my N50 from superdoughhook.com in the Netherlands - it arrived just last week.

Lovely engineered bit of kit - although it's heavy compared to the aluminium spiral hook I've been used to. It seems to work much the same as the EDDOUGH-ALU005, but I have confidence it won't snap in half like I've had two of the aluminium hooks do (and could go in the dish washer if I ever wanted it to).

Superdoughhook also make the JP10, which is aluminium, and is cheaper and would be lighter. If the build of the JP10A is anything to go by, I'd assume the JP10 is not prone to cracking like the EDDOUGH-ALU005 is, but that's speculation on my part.

The Kitchen Aid pasta attachments (roller, fettuccine and spaghetti) all work fine on the N50. I had an older set from KA where the roller developed a slip on thicker dough - I *think* that one was made in Italy. My new set is made is Italy, and has 7 roller settings, not 6. Seems just as good as the old one, but I now roll the pasta initially by hand so it doesn't strain the roller on 1st setting.  The pasta roller set linked above is the one I have now.

I'd love it if I could find a #12 pasta roller / cutter set (or adapter) to fit my recently acquired Hobart A120 :)

I did not know that about the alu spiral hook. I always thought it looked particularly fine for what it is designed to do. Will keep an eye on it now.

P.S. years ago, did run across an #12 hub actual coffee grinder  (not just the grinders that say they will do coffee).
