Tin Bread Box

Anyone have experience with old tin bread boxes?  Just wondering if they work and keep bread fresh for a few days with softening crusts.  I’ve got an old one with small holes in the sides and front hinges doors.  Going to clean it up and give it a shot. 

This one is amongst identical to the one I have.
