HIgher Oven Temperature with Baking Stone or Cast Iron Pot?
Hi folks!
I need help with my oven. I need to figure out if it is working properly. I rely on my oven thermometer alot. The internal temperature is pretty accurate when I preheat without a baking stone. However, when i put in a baking stone or cast iron pot, the difference between the internal oven thermometer and my dial can go as much as 68F. Eg... i preheat the oven with either a baking stone or pot, and set the oven dial to 464F. 40mins later, the internal oven temperature shows 536F. At this point, I will have to guess how much I need to lower the dial to get 464F.
Does having a baking stone or cast iron pot inside the oven brings the temperature higher?

What type of oven are you using? Gas/electric/wood/convection?
And what type of "internal oven thermometer" do you use?
I assumed "internal oven thermometer" meant the oven's built-in temperature sensor, but I see that I could be wrong.
but for some reason I pictured one of those bi-metal dial types you can pick up in your local supermarket.
Where is the temp probe located in the oven
It is a convection oven. The internal oven thermometer is one of those bi-metal dial that I got from the bakery supply shop (OldLoaf is right). And I have no idea where the temp probe is located.
I went to get another bi-metal dial thermo and placed both side by side. They shared almost the same readings with 5C variance. So i decided to run the oven for over an hour, recording on the oven temp dial the corresponding temp those little hanging dial thermos are showing in the oven. See the pic?
Is it normal for the oven temp to go higher when a baking stone is inside?
