Raleigh: organic flour anyone?

Hello everyone,

I just moved to the Raleigh area and I am trying to figure out where I can find organic flour for a good price. I used to live in Montreal, QC and was as happy as could be with Farinex where I could purchase La Milanaise flour for 20kg bags for C$25-30, i.e. pretty darn cheap.

Does anyone know of good stores in the Triangle area?

Thanks,

caritimo

Indeed, I had found them online: 25lbs for $50. A little on the expensive side, but I understand their positioning, they are promoting Carolina farmers. Unfortunately, you cannot buy wholesale from them . . . I used to buy 50-70lbs at a time.

Thanks for the suggestion!

When I'm in that area I stop at The Old Mill of Gilford, a water powered mill that will grind to individual requests or sell what they are currently milling, all natural but not sure if "organic" qualified;  also Lindley Mill is in Graham which is not too far away from you and they are certified organic.  Welcome to Raleigh, NC.

Thanks bob13, looks like they both sell high quality flour, but also a little expensive for my tastes, I guess I was spoiled up in Canada . . . :-)

Depending on the quantity you are looking for there are bakery supply companies in Raleigh that might work for you.  You'll need a tax certificate number in order to set up a business account to do business with them.  I think you will have a difficult time finding organic bread flour for $.37/pound (USD) anywhere in the US.

Because Carolina Ground is more like $2/lb. Can you find organic flour at $.37/lb???

I don't really think so, that was my point.  When I did the kilo/pounds & Canadian /US dollar conversions, the math came to what you were buying up north at $.37/pound.  I know of no bread flour available at that price point.  Double checked my math and found a mistake, should have been $.50 USD per pound, still not realistic in todays world for organic flour in the  USA.

Having said that, your best option is to shop on line and see about free shipping.
