ovencrafters plans

Toast

Greetings to all,

i have been reading the bread builders book for a couple of years and i recently decided to try building an oven.

i tried contacting ovencrafters but they are not online anymore, does anyone have any information where i can buy

plans from or if anyone has plans from ovencrafters specifically the 3foot x 4foot oven or the closest to it.

thanks

Mike Atsalakis

I don't remember that this book has explicit plans, but you'll find the information on materials and oven design current and very pertinent.  Insulate to the best of your finances.

Go to the Forno Bravo store (http://www.fornobravo.com/store/) and search for "pompei." There are a few resources that include a downloadable PDF and DVD. Their forums are also filled with tips and techniques regarding building a brick oven.

Eric

I just replied to your other post.  I do have the set of plans for that oven I think in the book I have.  I don't remember them being online.  I thought I had to mail in for them or something.

janij,

Are they detailed from start to finish with a material list?

Do they require refractory concrete or is portland good enough?

any details about the plans would be very helpful because i would potentially

love to purchase them from you.

mike

love to purchase them from you

Hi Jani

No idea whether you are still active at this site /have grown tired of the requests for the Oven Crafter Plans that you kindly offered to a bread-making soul a little while back?!? If (a) you are and (b) you are not ! this little bread-making soul would love a link to that DropBox location for the 36 x 48 oven : ) Thanking you in advance and trust your oven is still going strong.

Thank you and kind regards

Jack S.

Yes, it has info on site selection all the way to pictures of them being built.  It has 3 size options and material lists for each.  It's 34 pages long.

As far as the concrete goes.  You will have to find fine clay powder to mix per the instructions with the portland for the oven mortar.  We couldn't find said clay so we went to Acme brick and bought this fire rock mortar that is made for chimney work.

I can't sell the plans since we still need them.  However, if you PM me your address I can mail you a copy.

Janij

I want to build a bread oven just like the bread builders but i would like it a little bigger about 3 feet by 4 feet or the closest to it.

last year i saw the ovencrafters plans online but when i decided to get them ovencrafters was off line.

Thats really exiting that you are building an oven with your wife,my wife and i also are trying to get it together

to build one this summer.

I would love to get my hands on those oven plans whenever you are done with them or whenever you can send them.

Thank you so much to replying to my post and giving me hope.

my address is ( RR 1 Site 8 Comp.4 Winlaw BC V0G-2J0  Canada) 250 355 2880

i also have a calling card and i could possibly call you and get some more details if need be.

Thanks again and i am very grateful for your help

Good Afternoon! It seems I too am in the boat many others are as well. I have Alan Scott's book, and after a few years, am ready to build my first oven. I was wondering if you would be so kind to send me a copy of the plans as well. I will happily pay for the postage. I am also new to this site, and for some reason cannot figure out how to PM you my address....

The first guy I sent it to scanned it all and put it on drop box.  I have yet to figure out how to rename the files so they are in order.  I am going to scan it and see if I can either put it on drop box again.  Let me see what I can do.  I wish there as a way to have Floyd host it here.

Hello Janij,

I know that you have been bombarded with requests for the plans and I was hoping to get my hands on a copy as well, if the offer is still available! I would love to build a solid bread oven for my backyard...

you can either email me at leticiajnguyen(at)gmail(dot)com or via this forum.

Thanks in advance,

Leticia

I have the book all scanned and uploaded on drop box.  If you get me an email address I will shoot you the link.  I am not sure I should just post it.

great! thank you very much for all of your efforts...

Again, thank you so much!

Hi Jani,

I only joined the forum yesterday and boy have i seen some great ideas and recipes posted freely for us amateurs to use. You must be one of TFL's angels, making those oven plans freely available. I have a copy of The Bread Builder which includes lists and quantities of bricks etc., but their ovens all seem a bit big for my purposes. I only want to bake three or four loaves at a time. Do your plans cater for a smaller oven?

Alfred

Googling for Ovencrafters, after seeing that the site itself is no longer available, I found this thread. If it's not too much trouble, I'd love to have the link as well.

I have started building an oven using the drawings and instructions in The Bread Builders, but more detail never hurts...

My email is jarkko@jarkkolaine.com

Thanks,

Jarkko

Hi Janij,

I just found this forum today and am so happy to see there are plans out there!  The plans in the Ovencrafters book are a bit too big for our needs. If you would be willing to share your plans yet again, I would be so grateful!  We are finally deciding to take the plunge and get building.

my email is:

sarahzwickle@gmail.com

Thank you!

I meant the plans in Wing's "The Bread Builders", which I have poured over for a year or so now!

Drop box

Hello, I have been dreaming of an Alan Scott oven for a very long time. My grandparents had one and I have many memories centered around the oven. Now that I have a house of my own and am ready to get started on my own oven, I am sad to see the plans are no longer available. My grandfather swears he has a set of hand drawn plans from Alan Scott somewhere, but he has yet found them. Is it possible to get the information for the drop box, it would help so much? Thanks also for the book suggestions they are getting us very excited to get started.

Chris K.

Chris,

What I have are the hand drawn plans.  Just either PM me your email address or put it in the comments and I will email you the link!

Jani

Hi Jani,

I have a friend over there in San Antonio ex military guy by the name of Zannini - thanks in advance --

Hello!

Could you send me the link for the brick oven plans?  I have hopes to build one with our church and start baking bread for the community and give the funds generated to our local food shelf.

Thanks!

Hello. It seems you have been overwhelmed with requests for the plans. I would be very grateful if I could also get a copy of the plans. Thank you! Markandrewhart(at)gmail.com

Good Morning,

Hi Janij

Would you be able to send me the Dropbox link for the plans. I have just bought The Bread Builders by Daniel Wing and Alan Scott and am keen to build an oven.

Hi Jani,

I'm currently brainstorming building my first oven. I have a copy of Bread Builders (which inspired me) but need more detailed plans to begin. If you're still offering, would you be able to email me a PDF of the oven plans you.

Hi janji, I am really hoping to build an oven this year to bake breads and bagels in southern Vermont. I have been reading and studying the bread builders book for years and would really like to make one of Alan Scott's ovens but the one in the book is too small for my small business. Is there any way for me to get the plans from you?

Thanks so much for reading this. I am really hoping to feed my community in these difficult/uncertain times.

Take care,

Nicole

Hey Janij :)

Greetings from Brazil! I live in a really remote area in the backlands where it is almost impossible to even buy a conventional oven or oven plans for that matter :(

I am running a community project where I intend to build a kind of 'public oven'. I came across this thread and the promise to hopefully take a look at your building plans. Would you be kind enough to let me take a peek? All the best, Jay. (hellojnash@gmail.com)

One of the options in the book is 36x48.  I am copying the book right now.  it is just a spiral bound deal.  I will take it to the post office this afternoon when I go to get my kids.  I will let you know when the post office lady thinks you should get it!

My husband and I started last fall but it has rained almost non stop here in Texas this winter and spring, so progress has been slow.  We had one built when we lived in Houston.  There is a thread about it here

http://www.thefreshloaf.com/node/11410/project-begins

When I did the one in Houston there was a man Climbhi on here who had built one as well.  He did a write up about his here

http://www.thefreshloaf.com/node/10694/building-small-scottstyle-brick-oven

And his photo log is still up on flickr here

https://www.flickr.com/photos/climbhipa/sets/72157613634415857/

Between all this Kyle and I have limped through this one ourselves and it has not been bad.  If I get some time this weekend I will do a write up about it and post some pictures of how it has progressed.  But between the book The Bread Builders, the plan book and those links we are getting along.  Let me know where this takes you and if I can do anything else to help!

Jani

Wow your second oven i'am so jelous! you two must be experts by now.

I just cant' wait for the kids to go to sleep tonight so i can study all those photos

and read all the write ups!

i have been waiting for this for a couple of years now and i just cant believe it's coming true.

Thank you so much for going out of your way and doing this! i am super exited!!

buy for now the kids are home

hey there Jani,

I seemingly find myself in the same situation as others in this thread. I'm very excited to build an Alan Scott oven but have only the bread builders book and no route to plans. Any chance you could send me a copy of your plans? Also, apart from the two texts mentioned, do you have any other resource suggestions?

thanks for the consideration,

james

james4.worden4@4gmail.com (there're no 4s in my email address)

We had our first oven built for us.  We had little kids and a starting business at the time.  We have since moved to the country and bought our forever farm and are taking the plunge but this time on our own.

I am excited for you!  I put the plans in the mail this afternoon but am worried I shipped them on the pony express.  After I paid I asked if there was any tracking info and the lady said no and that it would take 2-3 weeks to get to you.  I was like EEK!  So I will copy it again and go back and see if there is a faster way cause that is crazy!

That sounds like us we just moved to the country as well but we built a tiny home on my mother in law's property.

we also have small kids and we are gonna take the plunge too hahahahahahha.

we are going on a road trip to the city to visit my mom, friends and a little shopping for a couple of weeks

so dont worry about sending them again they will be here when we get back.

i dont know how to thank you i mean besides paying you of course

what do i owe you?

mihalaras

Well enjoy your trip and hopefully they will be there when you return.  The postage was only $5 so don't worry about it at all.  I am glad that I was able to help you out on your journey to a wood fire oven.  I am so excited about ours.  It has been a rewarding project even though it has taken many hours of standing around going how do we do this!  There are so many possibilities for the facade that it gets pretty crazy.  We have spent a lot of time rearranging bricks!

Thank you so much! for the plans, the links which have been very informative like canuckjim and his expertise and

all the information on this forum.

i will contact you when i get back about 3 weeks.

all the best

mihalaras

Its a bit late in the day perhaps to add to this thread for 2015, but my brother in law built a brick bread oven from Tom Jaine's book, and it works a treat. You would have to adapt the materials to N American specifications, but that shouldn't be too difficult to sort out.  And after the bread has come out of the oven then put in the pork roast and the potatoes etc!  Or even a turkey!

hello! If possible could you please email me the Dropbox link?  It sounds like an answer to our prayers. We've built a kiko earth oven in our yard but need plans so we can build  this one in a commercial establishment. Thank you thank you thank you!!!!!  Jennifervs@embarqmail.com

Hello,

I'm letting a lot of the members here know about our company, so you may take a look at your convenience as to our wood fired brick ovens. I noticed you had interest in building your own wood fired brick oven, and it's always a fun project to take on! Our small business offers diy kits to make the building process easier with several floor options to choose from.

If you'd like to see what we have, and learn about us a bit more you may find something that is in line with your needs.  We have kits, or just oven building materials for your build. Below is a link if you have a chance to check it out!

Please could you send me the dropbox link to mjmpickering(at)gmail(dot)com

Hi Jani,

It seems we were all sad to see these plans unavailable from Ovencrafters. I checked yesterday to no avail which lead me here. I would be very grateful for the chance to have a look at those plans if it's not too much of an inconvenience for you. I realize there are many of us, so I understand if not. Thanks Jani, and best of luck in your baking endeavors!

Sincerely,

Chris

I have been searching for the Alan Scott OvenCrafters plans. I want the 32 x 36 or maybe even a smaller size.  Has anyone here built a smaller size?  In The Bread Builders there is information about building a 32 x 36.  I've seen people are building this one and many talk about building a bigger one.  Is a smaller size available? Is smaller size practical? I would love some feedback from anyone who has experience or knowledge on this.

Thank you

Curious if anyone has received  response via this thread?  I have not and would like to know if there is something I am missing?  I am also searching other places trying to find info for my oven..  If I find anything I will report back here.

I am also hoping to find a copy of the plans. I would also be willing to set up a place to host them and respond to requests for them. If anyone has received a copy of them and wouldn't mind passing them on, I would appreciate it.

If there are objections from the people who run ovencrafters I would stop, but I would hate to see these plans disappear or become inaccessible.

I have not received any responses from the seemingly "grateful" folks who have posted in the last few months/years either.

All i can say is, if communities hope to continue the art of wood fired cooking, against the relentless bombardment of tecno-feudalism, like minded people should at least try, as much as possible, to help one another preserve the ways of the past.  One day and most likely in a time of need, it will be amongst the greatest of honor to be able to provide these skills to our fellow man.

YES  it worked...  thanks a lot...  I had already back engineered the oven and finished construction based on photos and discussions...  but I'm still glad to have the plans..  I may build another later...  and it will be handy.  Also I saw that I had solved many issues similarly to AS, which makes me feel like my brain was ticking properly..   Thanks!!

Really? What am I missing? The link just takes me to the main filedropper page. Any chance you could send the file to stickyvalentine at g mail? I would be super grateful.

Hi All,
Similarly the most recent link did not work for me. Just gearing up to start building an oven from '"BreadBuilders" book, so the opportunity for more (related) plans would be a bonus. If anybody here can send me a functioning link or point me in the right direction I'd much appreciate it.
I'm presuming a link can be posted in reply to this - if not then I can be contacted at irimi307(at)gmail(dot)com
Cheers,

Richard

Hello all (particularly janij):

janij, if you still have scans of the ovencrafter plans, I would love to get them. I have been searching all over for them and stumbled onto this thread. If it is possible, would you send them to karl(dot)koster(at)gmail(dot).com?

Good day fellow Artisans,

I have 2 sets on commercial oven plans from Ovencrafters available.

I have built one of each for my bakery. These ovens are workhorses and produce the best baked goods i have ever encountered.

The first is a hearth size of 5 x 7 foot and a footprint of 8 x 10. 8 feet. The second second is 6 x 8 foot hearth and a foot print of 8.8 x 11.4 feet.

  1. These plans are for sale. For enquiries drop me a line at Alexiasavvides@gmail.com

If you are still looking for the plans and I never sent you the link, there is a new thread in the Brick oven section that I created and it has the link in it.  It would take me forever to find who I sent it to and who I did not.  Hope this helps anyone.
