Oregon strawberries are in season, so this morning I whipped up a batch of fresh strawberry freezer jam and a couple loaves of whole wheat bread.
Hard to beat.
A few weeks back I went shopping for containers to keep my starters in and was in the canning section of a store thinking "This looks like it could be fun too". After all, I got a garden.
Then reality hit me, and I realized the last thing I need is to take up yet ANOTHER hobby. My poor wife lost half her kitchen to my baking space requirements as it is.
Anyways, thank you for this recipe. I will most definately be trying it out, since I dont have to actually cook it like normal canning.
I think you are safer freezing it in those little plastic, tupperware-style freezer tubs. Or even old yogurt containers.
I put mine in jars because I don't intend on having any left in two weeks.
Floyd, that is making me drool - you have no idea. Thank you so much for showing us this recipe. I had no idea one could make jam without actually canning it. Will give it a try for sure. That color is outstanding and I'll bet it was absolutely delicious with that beautiful fresh bread. Wow.
Also, Ball makes these cool plastic freezer jam jars. The tops screw on and they seal really, really tightly. I actually use them for lots of things--you can always use small jars like that!
Love strawberry freezer jam! It tastes just like fresh berries, and is especially good in the dead of winter. Yours looks delicious!
