Just made the Rich Sourdough Barches from Inside The Jewish Bakery for the first time.
The dough is a bit wetter than I am used to for Challah, but still manageable.
The taste and texture are great!
Thank you, Stan and Norm!

Ah Barches... We make them during Rosh Hashanah at the bakery. The dough is surprisingly sticky - but can be managed well!
I.e., your braiding.
Very nice :)
Arlo,
Good to hear from you.
Big family event coming up on Saturday. Getting the hang of 6-strand braids...
Juergen
great color and the braiding, all three of them, is very well done Juergen. A gre3at bake!
Dabrownman,
I couldn't comment on your Belegte-Brote-Parade yet - those pictures ... make it hard ... to divide ... attention ...
healthy to eat in reality and I'm not sure can gain weight by eating them since I did and actually lost a couple of pounds over 10 weeks ..... but looking at them could blow the waistline up a size or two if one is near a bag of chips, ice cream, chocolates or any large desert plates at the time:-)
fantastic, Juergen!
Nico, Thank you
Juergen
Great looking loaves! Love your braiding...you either have daughters or a lot of practice with Challah! My braiding skills are pretty sad.
Thanks for sharing.

- a son with short hair.
Thank you, Ian.
Playdough is your friend!
If you want to practise Challah, start with Dan DiMuzio's Sweet Challah - Great dough for sculpting. I don't use any bench four for that! Doesn't stick and behaves very nicely. Gives me the feeling to be in charge...
Cheers,
Juergen
Juergen,
What beauties. Especially the one on the far left. Is that actually 2 braids - one on top of the other?
So many fun shapes to do....makes me want to braid my next loaf too but it isn't the right type of dough so I will have to fit one in soon!
I am sure your family will love the breads you provide. Have fun.
Janet
Thank you, Janet.
It is my mother-in-law's 80th bitrthday, and we will have Challah with the starters at our banquet - I will be braiding for 60 people!
The left braid in the photo is actually composed of 3 braids - two 3 strand next to each other with a 6 strand on top (it's all in ITJB). Very easy to assemble, this will be the centrepiece of the head table (in a slightly bigger version) .
For the other 5 tables I will do Challah rolls and mini braids.
Great fun indeed.
Juergen
Beautiful Juergen!
cheers,
Phil
Hi Juergen,
Gorgeously braided loaves, perfect egg-wash and crust color too :^)
You've shaped and extended the strands so nicely - the loaves are beautifully braided, end to end!

Juergen, Your braiding is inspiring. I don't think I've ever had a barch. Will have to try. -Varda
